Laura Ciruls was a professional graphic and web designer, as well as a traditional acrylic and watercolour painter. La Prix Virginia et Myrtle Cooper pour la création de costumes was established in 2006 by the late Dr. Virginia S. Cooper of Toronto. An annual award meant to be given “for the love of creation,” it is intended to enrich the careers of professional mid-career Canadian costume designers in Ontario through research and travel. Norman Walford, former Executive Director of the Ontario Arts Council, and the late Paul de Hueck, former CBC television production manager established the Paul de Hueck and Norman Walford Fund. Beginning in 2016, the triennial award will recognize the career and contributions made by an Ontario arts administrator in the field of arts communications, marketing and/or development in the non-profit arts sector. La Prix Kathleen McMorrow de musique was established in 2015. Kathleen McMorrow headed the Music Library at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Music from 1974 to 2013. She established the award to recognize and encourage the composition and presentation of Canadian contemporary classical music. The Ontario Arts Foundation manages the endowment that funds the award. One of Canada’s most illustrious chamber ensembles, the critically acclaimed Orford String Quartet, was internationally recognized for its performances of chamber music for over 25 years.
