Canadian composer, administrator and champion of the arts, Louis Applebaum established the Louis Applebaum Composers Fund at the Foundation in 1998 to recognize excellence in composition. Read More
Laura Ciruls was a professional graphic and web designer, as well as a traditional acrylic and watercolour painter. Through way of a bequest, Laura set up the Laura Ciruls Painting Fund, to recognize artists like herself, who were contributing to the development of painting in Ontario. Read More
The Virginia and Myrtle Cooper Award in Costume Design was established in 2006 by the late Dr. Virginia S. Cooper of Toronto. An annual award meant to be given “for the love of creation,” it is intended to enrich the careers of professional mid-career Canadian costume designers in Ontario through research and travel. Arts patrons William and Mary Corcoran established the William and Mary Corcoran Craft Fund to encourage excellence in crafts. Each year prizes are awarded to students graduating from Sheridan College in the disciplines of glass, textiles, furniture, ceramics and industrial design. Read More
The Christopher Dedrick Music Fund was established by Moira Dedrick in honour of her late husband, prolific musician and composer, Christopher Dedrick. Read More
Norman Walford, former Executive Director of the Ontario Arts Council, and the late Paul de Hueck, former CBC television production manager established the Paul de Hueck and Norman Walford Fund. The awards recognize Canadian artists for their significant contributions and excellence in the body of work in the areas of keyboard artistry, singing and art photography. Read More
The Eldred Family Dance Award was established at the Ontario Arts Foundation by the late Gerald (Gerry) Eldred, distinguished Canadian arts executive, and the late Marjorie Eldred, former National Ballet School academic teacher. The award recognizes exceptional achievement and creative ability in dance by an established Ontario choreographer. The winner is chosen through a nominating and adjudication process managed by the Ontario Arts Council. Read More
The Ontario Arts Foundation and the Gordon Foundation are pleased to announce the renewal of the Elizabeth L. Gordon Art Program. The Program aims to foster a broader appreciation of Canadian visual art and artists by assisting public art galleries and museums in Ontario to grow their permanent collections, increase the public’s knowledge of collecting and permanent collections, and support community engagement between a gallery or museum and its local community. The Mary Jolliffe Award for Senior Arts Administrators was established in honour of Mary Jolliffe, an esteemed theatrical press agent and arts publicist. Beginning in 2016, the triennial award will recognize the career and contributions made by an Ontario arts administrator in the field of arts communications, marketing and/or development in the non-profit arts sector. Hugh D. McKellar grew up in southwestern Lambton County. He studied piano, and had a lengthy career teaching and working in libraries in Toronto secondary schools. Mr. McKellar had an avid interest in church music and hymns. Read More
The Kathleen McMorrow Music Award was established in 2015. Kathleen McMorrow headed the Music Library at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Music from 1974 to 2013. She established the award to recognize and encourage the composition and presentation of Canadian contemporary classical music. The Ontario Arts Foundation manages the endowment that funds the award. The Ontario Arts Foundation Artist Educator Award is given to an Ontario resident who exemplifies excellence in arts education, demonstrates a unique approach to their arts education practice, creates meaningful learning experiences for young people, inspires connections to the arts beyond the classroom and continues to maintain an active arts practice. The Ontario Arts Foundation established and manages the endowment that funds the Artist Educator Award. Read More
One of Canada’s most illustrious chamber ensembles, the critically acclaimed Orford String Quartet, was internationally recognized for its performances of chamber music for over 25 years. On the occasion of its final performance in 1991 at the Sharon Festival, funds were raised and and endowment was established with the Ontario Arts Foundation. Read More
