Annonce de la lauréate du prix Virginia et Myrtle Cooper Pout la Création de Costumes pour l'année 2012

Toronto – June 19, 2012 –Costume and set designer, Dana Osborne is the 2012 recipient of the $15,000 Prix Virginia et Myrtle Cooper in Costume Design. The award is given annually to professional Canadian costume designers in Ontario in mid-career to further enrich their careers through research and travel.

Dana Osborne has been working as a costume and set designer across Canada for fifteen years. This is Dana’s  twelfth season at the Stratford Shakespearean Festival where she is the designer for You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown et le Wanderlust. Her credits at Stratford include the costumes for Hosanna, As You Like It, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Moby Dick, The Comedy of Errors, The Lark, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Timon of Athens, Agamemnon and set and costumes for King Henry IV, Part One.

Dana’s other credits include the upcoming productions of Macbeth, Pacific Opera et le Speed the Plow, Soulpepper Theatre Company as well as designs for theatre companies including Globe Theatre (Regina), Grand Theatre (London), Canadian Stage, Theatrefront, Young People’s Theatre, Pleiades Theatreet Factory Theatre (Toronto).

Dana a un baccalauréat en beaux-arts avec honneurs en création pour le théâtre de York University. Elle a commencé sa carrière dans la gestion de costumes, travaillant pour la Canadian Opera Company, le Shaw Festival et Mirvish Productions avant de choisir la création. En 2004, elle a été nommée l’une des jeunes créatrices à surveiller par le magazine « Entertainment Design ». Dana a reçu le Prix Dora Mavor Moore pour la création de costumes remarquable en 2010 pour « TheMill » (Theatrefront).

Dana Osborne a été sélectionnée parmi un ensemble de nominés remarquable. Le jury de cette année composé de professionnels du théâtre Bonnie Deakin (Stratford), Ken MacDonald (Toronto), et Kim Renders (Kingston) a été impressionné par les interprétations fortes et créatives de Dana, notant qu’ « elle est une créatrice moderne pour le théâtre d’aujourd’hui. Elle utilise son sens aiguisé de la mode d’aujourd’hui en la mélangeant astucieusement avec des apparences historiques afin de donner à ses spectacles une création unique. Elle utilise aussi à merveille les objets trouvés et possède de solides compétences techniques ».

Le Prix Virginia et Myrtle Cooper pour la création de costumes a été créé grâce à un don généreux que Virginia S. Cooper, de Toronto, a légué par testament. Ce prix doit être attribué « pour l’amour de la création ». Dr Cooper a été directrice du théâtre Tarragon et elle était membre fondatrice du Arts and Letters Club de Toronto, auquel elle participait activement. Elle s’intéressait vivement aux arts de la scène, en particulier à la conception des costumes.
