Annonce des lauréates du prix Christina et Louis Quilico pour l'année 2017

Toronto, le 14 février 2017 – Emily D'Angelo et Danika Lorèn du Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio sont les co-lauréates du prix principal, d'une valeur de 8 000 $, des Prix Christina et Louis Quilico. Charles Sy a remporté le troisiëme prix d'une valeur de 2 000 $.

Les lauréats ont été annoncés à la suite du concours de chant qui s'est tenu à Toronto le 13 février 2017 dans l’Amphithéâtre Richard Bradshaw au Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. Les Prix reconnaissent l'excellence d'une interprétation et les membres du COC Ensemble Studio ont concouru en chantant des airs d'opéra devant les juges Alexander Neef, Directeur général de la COC, Sandra Horst, Chef de chœur de la COC, et Adrianne Pieczonka, Chanteuse lyrique soprano canadienne.

Italian-Canadian mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo won First Prize and Audience Choice Award at the Canadian Opera Company’s 2015 Ensemble Studio Competition and is a winner of the 2016 Metropolitan Opera National Council Audition Finals. She made her European debut in 2016 at the Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi as Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro under the baton of James Conlon. She received her bachelor of music in performance from the University of Toronto in 2016 where she was the recipient of the Jim and Charlotte Norcop Prize in Song and the Tecumseh Sherman Rogers Graduating Award. Additionally, she is a 2016 grant recipient of the Jacqueline Desmarais Foundation. This season with the COC, she sings the role of Second Lady in The Magic Flute.

A native of Saskatoon, Danika Lorèn is a recent winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Buffalo/Toronto District Auditions and won the 2015 University of Toronto Concerto Competition. Her recent engagements include Tiny in Paul Bunyan (UofT Opera) and Rosina in The Barber of Seville (Saskatoon Opera). Orchestral appearances include Richard Strauss’ Op. 27 with the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Fauré’s Requiem with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra and Mozart’s Coronation Mass with the London Fanshawe Chorus. She is also founding member of Collectìf, an artist collective dedicated to exploring art song as theatre. Ms. Lorèn completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at UofT. This winter, she sings the role of Woglinde in the COC’s Götterdämmerung.

A propos du COC Ensemble Studio
Le COC Ensemble Studio est Ie principal programme de formation pour les jeunes professionnels de l'opéra au Canada. Depuis la création du programme en 1980, plus de 220 jeunes chanteurs professionnels canadiens, répétiteurs, metteurs en scène et chefs d'orchestre ont acquis leur première expérience professionnelle en opéra au sein de l'Ensemble Studio. Les anciens membres comptent Ben Heppner, Isabel Bayrakdarian, John Fanning, Wendy Nielsen, Joseph Kaiser, David Pomeroy, Allyson McHardy et Krisztina Szabó.

Les membres de l’Ensemble Studio sont les artistes résidents du COC et les ambassadeurs importants de la compagnie. Ils reçoivent un mélange d'études avancées et d'expériences pratiques au travers d'un programme pluriannuel personnalisé, comprenant des rôles de doublure et des rôles de soliste, un coaching vocal intensif, des études de jeux et de langues, et un développement des compétences professionnelles, ainsi que la participation à des classes de maitre avec des professionnels de l'opéra de renommée internationale.

A propos des Prix Christina and Louis Quilico
Christina Petrowska-Quilico a créé le Fonds Christina et Louis Quilico en 2000 en hommage à son défunt mari, le baryton réputé Louis Quilico, et pour reconnaître de jeunes chanteurs et chanteuses, pianistes et compositeurs et compositrices de chant. Durant ses 45 années passées sur la scène, Louis Quilico a figuré aux mêmes génériques que Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, José Carreras, Joan Sutherland et Renata Tebaldi. Il a aussi contribué à faire avancer la carrière de nombreux jeunes chanteurs et chanteuses, grâce à son enseignement et aux ateliers maîtres qu’il donnait. La Fondation des arts de l’Ontario gère le fonds de dotations qui finance les Prix Christina et Louis Quilico.
