2013 Recipient of the Laura Ciruls Painting Award Announced

Toronto – January 29, 2013 – The Ontario Arts Foundation is pleased to announce the 2013 winner of the Laura Ciruls Painting Award.  The $3,500 award is given annually to recognize an Ontario based mid-career painter.

Toronto artist, Andrew Rucklidge is the recipient of the $3,500 award. Andrew is a Canadian painter who draws on an array of influences that range from the 15th century splashed ink painting of Sesshu, the grand panoramas of the American Sublime through to aerial surveillance photographs and diagrams of military conflict. His paintings invoke the aesthetics of Romantic landscape painting and often take the form of grand apocalyptic vistas. His most recent series of works attempts to remodel architectural and interior structures against nascent savage forms and formal crystalline-edged abstraction.

Andrew currently teaches painting and drawing at OCADU in Toronto.
