Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON, October 15, 2014\u00a0\u2014 Nominations for the fourth annual\u00a0<\/span>prix Gina Wilkinson<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(Gina\u2019s Prize) will be accepted starting\u00a0<\/span>October 15, 2014<\/strong><\/span>. The prize is intended to recognize an experienced female theatre artist transitioning from one theatre discipline into the discipline of theatre direction. The annual Gina\u2019s Prize pays tribute to Canadian actor, playwright and director\u00a0<\/span>Gina Wilkinson<\/a>\u00a0and her unyielding dedication, vision and indomitable spirit that imbued her work and her life. The recipient will be chosen from nominations brought forward by members of the Canadian theatre community.<\/span><\/p>

An actor for over twenty years, Gina began turning her attention to both writing and directing and, in the last few years of her too-short life, established herself as a daring, strong, inventive and important director and collaborator in the Canadian theatre community. Shortly after Gina died in December 2010, a fund was established to bene\ufb01t female theatre directors. The Gina Wilkinson Prize was made possible by the generous support of over 200 people from all across Canada.<\/p>

In the past year, a generous gift was made to the fund by the bene\ufb01ciaries of the Estate of\u00a0Elsie V. Adamson<\/span><\/strong>. Gina’s brother,\u00a0Martin Wilkinson<\/span><\/strong>, a Victoria based \ufb01nancial advisor for RBC Dominion Securities, was a long-time friend and advisor of Mrs. Adamson.\u00a0As a result of this generous gift, in combination with previous and ongoing donations to the fund, the Prize has been increased fro<\/p>

$2,000 to $5,000. \u00a0In the spirit of Ms. Wilkinson\u2019s generosity and appetite for life, this prize is a gift to be used in any way the recipient chooses.<\/p>

Previous winners of the Gina Wilkinson Prize include:\u00a0Ann-Marie Kerr<\/a>\u00a0of Halifax (2012),\u00a0Krista Jackson<\/a>\u00a0of Winnipeg (2013) and\u00a0Christine Brubaker\u00a0<\/a>of Toronto (2014).<\/p>

This year\u2019s nomination deadline is\u00a0December 15, 2014<\/span><\/strong>, with the award recipient announced on\u00a0March 10, 2015<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>
