Toronto, le 17 mai 2010 \u2013 Carolyn M. Smith<\/strong>, une cr\u00e9atrice de costumes \u00e9tablie \u00e0 Toronto, a remport\u00e9 le Prix Virginia et Myrtle Cooper pour la cr\u00e9ation de costumes<\/strong>, pour l'ann\u00e9e 2010. Ce prix, qui s'accompagne d'une r\u00e9compense de 15 000 dollars<\/strong>, est d\u00e9cern\u00e9 tous les ans \u00e0 une costumi\u00cbre ou \u00e0 un costumier professionnel canadien qui travaille en Ontario et qui en est au milieu de sa carri\u00cbre; il permet \u00e0 cette personne d'enrichir davantage sa carri\u00cbre par le biais de recherches et de voyages.<\/p>

Dipl\u00d9m\u00e9e du programme de sc\u00e9nographie de l'\u2026cole nationale de th\u00e9\u201atre, Carolyn M. Smith<\/strong> a travaill\u00e9 comme d\u00e9coratrice et costumi\u00cbre au travers du Canada pour plus de vingt ans. 2010 marque sa douzi\u00cbme saison au Stratford Shakespeare Festival pour laquelle Carolyn est la sc\u00e9nographe de \u00b4 Peter Pan \u00aa. Elle a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 pour le festival de Stratford les costumes pour la premi\u00cbre de \u00b4 The Swanne \u00aa (les trois parties), les costumes et la sc\u00e9nographie pour \u00b4 The Duchess of Malfi , \u00b4 Othello \u00aa, \u00b4 Shakespeare's Universe \u00aa et \u00b4 Bartholomew Fair \u00aa, ainsi que la sc\u00e9nographie pour \u00b4 The Odyssey \u00aa.<\/p>

Au cr\u00e9dit de Carolyn se trouve \u00e9galement \u00b4 Macbeth \u00aa (NAC, Citadel), \u00b4 The Way of the World \u00aa (NAC\/Soulpepper), \u00b4 Atlantis \u00aa (Grand Theatre), \u00b4 Picasso at the Lapin Agile \u00aa (Grand Theatre\/Vancouver Playhouse), \u00b4 Through the Eyes \u00aa (Factory Studio Theatre) ; la sc\u00e9nographie pour plus de 17 nouvelles pi\u00cbces canadiennes et pour les op\u00e9ras canadiens \u00b4 Beatrice Chance \u00aa (Queen of Puddings Music Theatre) et \u00b4 The Gang \u00aa (Autumn Leaf Productions) ;les costumes pour Neptune Theatre, Necessary Angel, le festival Shaw, Broadway, ainsi que pour le cin\u00e9ma et la t\u00e9l\u00e9vision. En 1995, Carolyn M. Smith a re\u00c1u le prix Jessie Richardson Theatre Award pour les meilleurs costumes pour \u00b4 Scary Stories \u00aa (Alberta Theatre Projects\/Vancouver Playhouse).<\/p>

Le Prix Virginia et Myrtle Cooper pour la cr\u00e9ation de costumes<\/strong> a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 gr\u201ace \u00e0 un don g\u00e9n\u00e9reux que Virginia S. Cooper<\/strong>, de Toronto, a l\u00e9gu\u00e9 par testament. Ce prix doit \u00cdtre attribu\u00e9 \u00b4 pour l'amour de la cr\u00e9ation \u00aa. \n

\nMme<\/sup> Cooper a \u00e9t\u00e9 directrice du th\u00e9\u201atre Tarragon et elle \u00e9tait membre fondatrice du Arts and Letters Club de Toronto, auquel elle participait activement. Elle s'int\u00e9ressait vivement aux arts de la sc\u00cbne, en particulier \u00e0 la conception des costumes; elle \u00e9tait en train d'\u00e9crire un livre intitul\u00e9 Pins and Needles<\/u>, lequel mettait en vedette certaines des robes que sa m\u00cbre, Myrtle Cooper, avait con\u00c1ues et fabriqu\u00e9es pour elle.<\/p>

La Fondation des arts de l'Ontario<\/strong> g\u00cbre le fonds de dotation qui finance le Prix Virginia et Myrtle Cooper. Le Conseil des arts de l'Ontario<\/strong> a administr\u00e9 le processus de s\u00e9lection du laur\u00e9at. Un jury compos\u00e9 du metteur en sc\u00cbne Claude Guilman<\/strong>, et des sc\u00e9nographes et costumiers Shawn Kerwin<\/strong>, John Pennoyer<\/strong>, Cameron Porteous<\/strong> et Teresa Przybylski<\/strong> a choisi Mme Smith<\/strong> comme laur\u00e9ate parmi une liste de costumi\u00cbres et costumiers qui avaient \u00e9t\u00e9 mis en candidature, \u00e0 travers l'Ontario.<\/p>
