Toronto, le 1er juin 2007<\/strong> \u2013 Deux jurys d'\u00e9l\u00cbves de l'\u00e9cole \u00e9l\u00e9mentaire publique Parkdale<\/strong> de Toronto ont annonc\u00e9 aujourd'hui le nom des laur\u00e9ats des prix Ruth et Sylvia Schwartz de litt\u00e9rature jeunesse 2007<\/strong>.<\/p>

Dans le volet Livre pour jeunes lecteurs<\/strong>, des \u00e9l\u00cbves de 7e et 8e ann\u00e9e<\/strong> ont d\u00e9cern\u00e9 le prix \u00e0 Deborah Ellis<\/strong>, pour I Am a Taxi<\/em><\/strong> (Groundwood Books). Mentionnons que, en 2003, cette auteure de Simcoe avait re\u00c1u le prix Schwartz dans le m\u00cdme volet pour Parvana's Journey<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>

Dans le volet Livre illustr\u00e9<\/strong>, des \u00e9l\u00cbves de 3e et 4e ann\u00e9e<\/strong> ont d\u00e9cern\u00e9 le prix \u00e0 Scaredy Squirrel<\/em><\/strong> (Kids Can Press), \u00e9crit et illustr\u00e9 par M\u00e9lanie Watt<\/strong>, de Montr\u00e9al. Le laur\u00e9at de chaque volet re\u00c1oit 5 000$<\/strong>.<\/p>

Les cinq \u00e9l\u00cbves de 3e<\/sup> et 4e<\/sup> ann\u00e9e qui ont choisi Scaredy Squirrel<\/em><\/strong> ont trouv\u00e9 le livre \u00b4 tr\u00cbs amusant \u00aa et en ont aim\u00e9 les images, \u00b4 qui sont dr\u00d9les et rappelent celles des BD \u00aa.<\/p>

Les \u00e9l\u00cbves de 7e<\/sup> et 8e<\/sup> ann\u00e9e qui ont choisi I Am a Taxi<\/em><\/strong> ont qualifi\u00e9 le livre d'original, de novateur et d'exceptionnel. L'un des \u00e9l\u00cbves a signal\u00e9 que l'intrigue \u00b4 permettait de comprendre un autre pays \u00aa. Un autre a ajout\u00e9 : \u00b4 Mon c\u00faur fondait au terme de la lecture de ce livre. \u00aa<\/p>

Les auteurs et illustrateurs finalistes venaient de tous les coins du Canada, entre autres d'Edmonton, Saskatoon, St. John's, Vancouver, Ottawa, Peterborough, Perth et Millbrook.<\/p>

Les prix Ruth et Sylvia Schwartz de litt\u00e9rature jeunesse<\/strong> rendent hommage aux auteurs et illustrateurs canadiens qui se sont d\u00e9marqu\u00e9s par leur excellence dans le domaine de la litt\u00e9rature enfantine. Ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 en 1976 par Sylvia Schwartz \u00e0 la m\u00e9moire de sa s\u00faur Ruth Schwartz, libraire torontoise respect\u00e9e. Sylvia elle-m\u00cdme \u00e9tait une photographe bien connue qui a exerc\u00e9 \u00e0 Toronto des ann\u00e9es 1940 jusqu'au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 1960 et s'etait sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9e dans le portrait d'enfant. En 2004, pour l'honorer, la famille a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 d'inclure son nom dans les prix et de les rebaptiser prix Ruth et Sylvia Schwartz de litt\u00e9rature jeunesse<\/strong>.<\/p>

Ces prix annuels sont g\u00e9r\u00e9s conjointement par le Conseil des arts de l'Ontario<\/strong> (qui choisit l'\u00e9cole et les jurys), la Fondation des arts de l'Ontario<\/strong>, la Fondation Ruth Schwartz<\/strong> et l'Association des libraires canadiens<\/strong> (dont les membres s\u00e9lectionnent les livres mis en lice).<\/p>
