M. Rolfe est bien connu pour son premier op\u00e9ra, <em>Beatrice Chancy (<\/em>libretto de George Elliott Clarke<em>),<\/em> dont tant le public que les critiques ont fait l'\u00e9loge durant la production qu'en a faite la Queen of Puddings Music Theatre Company \u00e0 Toronto, \u00e0 Dartmouth et \u00e0 Edmonton, et par suite de la t\u00e9l\u00e9diffusion nationale qu'en a faite le r\u00e9seau CBC TV. Son <em>Orpheus and Eurydice<\/em> (libretto d'Andr\u00e9 Alexis) a r\u00e9cemment fait l'objet d'une semi-production th\u00e9\u201atrale r\u00e9alis\u00e9e par le Toronto Masque Theatre, et <em>Rosa<\/em> (libretto de Camyar Chair) a \u00e9t\u00e9 jou\u00e9 durant l'\u00e9dition 2004 de Opera-to-go, du Tapestry New Opera Work's, et lors de la conf\u00e9rence Opera America qui s'est tenue \u00e0 Detroit, en 2005. M. Rolfe ach\u00cbve deux nouveaux op\u00e9ras pour enfants et il en est aux \u00e9tapes pr\u00e9liminaires de deux op\u00e9ras pleine dur\u00e9e. La premi\u00cbre de son nouvel op\u00e9ra pour enfants intitul\u00e9 <em>Elijah's Kite<\/em> (libretto de Camyar Chai), une coproduction de la Manhattan School of Music et de Tapestry New Opera Work's, aura lieu \u00e0 New York, en avril 2006.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">Le <strong>Conseil des arts de l'Ontario<\/strong>\u00a0 a administr\u00e9 le processus de s\u00e9lection en travaillant avec les membres du jury, soit avec Eda Holmes, metteuse en sc\u00cbne, Christopher House, chor\u00e9graphe et directeur artistique au Toronto Dance Theatre, Rick Macmillan, administrateur et auteur (SOCAN), et Wayne Strongman, directeur artistique au Tapestry New Opera Works.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Louis Applebaum<\/strong> a cr\u00e9\u00e9 <strong>le Fonds Louis Applebaum pour les compositeurs<\/strong> chez la <strong>Fondation des arts de l'Ontario<\/strong>, en 1998, pour souligner l'excellence quant \u00e0 tout genre de composition musicale. \u00b4 Le compositeur canadien Louis Applebaum a consacr\u00e9 sa vie au r\u00e9veil culturel du Canada et cette \u00ecmagnifique obsession\u00ee l'a amen\u00e9 \u00e0 devenir un fondateur de la Ligue canadienne des compositeurs ainsi que du Centre de musique canadienne. Il a contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 la cr\u00e9ation de l'Office national du film du Canada, du festival de Stratford et du Centre national des Arts, \u00e0 Ottawa. Durant pr\u00cbs d'un demi-si\u00cbcle, il a compos\u00e9 de la musique destin\u00e9e au festival de Stratford, \u00e0 la t\u00e9l\u00e9vision, \u00e0 la radio et au cin\u00e9ma. \u00aa (Tir\u00e9 de <em>Louis Applebaum, A Passion for Culture<\/em>, de Walter Pitman, \u00e9ditions Dundurn Press.)<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">Le premier Prix Louis Applebaum pour les compositeurs a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9cern\u00e9 au compositeur canadien <strong>R. Murray Schafer, en 1999<\/strong> : il r\u00e9compensait l'\u00fauvre de toute une vie et soulignait tant l'excellence en mati\u00cbre de composition que l'impact du travail d'un compositeur sur la soci\u00e9t\u00e9. <strong>Alexina Louie<\/strong> et <strong>Alex Pauk<\/strong> ont \u00e9t\u00e9 les deuxi\u00cbmes r\u00e9cipiendaires du Prix, lequel soulignait l'excellence en mati\u00cbre de composition pour le cin\u00e9ma et la t\u00e9l\u00e9vision.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">La <strong>Fondation des arts de l'Ontario<\/strong> g\u00cbre le fonds de dotation qui finance le <strong>Prix Louis Applebaum pour les compositeurs<\/strong>.
