Toronto, 11 mai 2004<\/strong> \u2013 Des \u00e9l\u00cbves de l'\u00e9cole publique Nelson Mandela Park<\/strong> de Toronto (Ontario) ont annonc\u00e9 aujourd'hui le nom des laur\u00e9ats des Prix Ruth et Sylvia Schwartz de litt\u00e9rature jeunesse<\/strong>. Ces prix nationaux \u2013 qui comportent un volet Livres illustr\u00e9s<\/strong> et un volet Livres pour jeunes lecteurs<\/strong> \u2013 sont d\u00e9cern\u00e9s aux auteurs et illustrateurs canadiens qui se sont distingu\u00e9s dans le domaine de la litt\u00e9rature enfantine.<\/p>

Un jury de cinq \u00e9l\u00cbves de 3e et 4e ann\u00e9e a d\u00e9cern\u00e9 le prix de 5 000 $<\/strong> du volet Livres illustr\u00e9s \u00e0 The Subway Mouse<\/strong>, (North Winds Press\/Scholastic Canada Ltd.) \u00e9crit et illustr\u00e9 par l'auteure torontoise Barbara Reid<\/strong>. Il a expliqu\u00e9 son choix en disant que \u00b4 c'est un livre d'aventures passionnant accompagn\u00e9 de superbes images \u00aa.<\/p>

Un jury de cinq \u00e9l\u00cbves de 7e et 8e ann\u00e9e a d\u00e9cern\u00e9 le prix de 5 000 $<\/strong> du volet Livres pour jeunes lecteurs \u00e0 Boy O'Boy<\/strong>,(Groundwood Books)de Brian Doyle<\/strong>, auteur d'Ottawa. Il a expliqu\u00e9 son choix en disant que c'est un livre \u00b4 audacieux et accrocheur \u00aa qui d\u00e9montre \u00b4 la valeur de l'amiti\u00e9 \u00aa.<\/p>

En 1976, Sylvia Schwartz avait cr\u00e9\u00e9 le Prix Ruth Schwartz de litt\u00e9rature jeunesse \u00e0 la m\u00e9moire de sa s\u00faur Ruth, libraire torontoise respect\u00e9e. Cette ann\u00e9e, la famille Schwartz a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de changer le nom du prix et de l'appeler les Prix Ruth et Sylvia Schwartz de litt\u00e9rature jeunesse<\/strong> pour rendre hommage \u00e0 Sylvia, photographe bien connue \u00e0 Toronto des ann\u00e9es 1940 jusqu'au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 1960, qui aimait les enfants, s'\u00e9tait sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9e dans le portrait d'enfants et appr\u00e9ciait leur sens ludique.<\/p>

Les jurys des prix sont compos\u00e9s d'\u00e9l\u00cbves d'une \u00e9cole d\u00e9sign\u00e9e chaque ann\u00e9e par le Conseil des arts de l'Ontario. Les prix sont administr\u00e9s conjointement par la Fondation du Conseil des arts de l'Ontario,<\/strong> la Fondation Ruth Schwartz<\/strong>, le Conseil des arts de l'Ontario<\/strong> (qui g\u00cbre le processus d'\u00e9valuation) et l'Association des libraires canadiens<\/strong> (dont les membres \u00e9tablissent la liste des livres en lice).<\/p>
