background-color: var(--ast-global-color-7); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\">prix Ruth Schwartz de litt\u00e9rature jeunesse<\/strong><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-7); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\">.<\/span><strong style=\"font-style: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-7); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-7); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\">This year the prize money has been doubled from $5,000 to\u00a0<\/span><strong style=\"font-style: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-7); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\">$10,000<\/strong><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-7); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><p>Grade 4 students awarded the children&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>picture book<\/strong>\u00a0prize to\u00a0<strong>The Night Walker<\/strong>\u00a0written by Richard Thompson, illustrated by Martin Springett.\u00a0 The author and illustrator each received\u00a0<strong>$3,000<\/strong>.\u00a0 Author Deborah Ellis received\u00a0<strong>$4,000<\/strong>\u00a0for her book\u00a0<strong>Parvana&#8217;s Journey<\/strong>, the winner of the\u00a0<strong>Livre pour jeunes lecteurs<\/strong>\u00a0book category.<\/p><p>This national award \u00f3 one for a children&#8217;s picture book and one for a young adult\/middle reader book \u00f3 recognizes authors and illustrators from across Canada who demonstrate artistic excellence in children&#8217;s literature.\u00a0<\/p><p>Five students in grade 4 chose\u00a0<strong>The Night Walker<\/strong>\u00a0as the best picture book because it was \u00ecpartly a mystery and partly funny.\u00ee\u00a0 One student said of the illustrations that it was \u00ecas though the illustrator had read the author&#8217;s mind.\u00ee\u00a0\u00a0 Five students in grades 6 chose\u00a0<strong>Parvana&#8217;s Journey<\/strong>, the sequel to\u00a0<strong>The Breadwinner<\/strong>, as the best young adult\/middle reader book, saying that it \u00ecshows compassion\u00ee and \u00ecmade us think we should be happy with what we have.\u00ee\u00a0<\/p><p>At the\u00a0<strong>Rose Avenue Public School<\/strong>\u00a0event, The Ruth Schwartz Foundation also presented complete sets of the\u00a0<strong>38<\/strong>\u00a0winning Ruth Schwartz books to the principals of\u00a0<strong>nine\u00a0<\/strong>downtown Toronto schools and Bobcaygeon Public School.\u00a0<\/p><p>The Ruth Schwartz Children&#8217;s Book Award was established in 1976 by Sylvia Schwartz in honour of her sister, the late Ruth Schwartz, a respected Toronto bookseller. Each year, the\u00a0<strong>Conseil des arts de l'Ontario<\/strong>\u00a0selects an Ontario school to provide the juries for the prizes. The administration of this award is shared by the\u00a0<strong>Conseil des arts de l'Ontario<\/strong>, which selects the juries, the\u00a0<strong>Fondation du Conseil des arts de l'Ontario<\/strong>,
