Toronto, March 25, 2003<\/strong>\u00a0\u00f3\u00a0<\/em>The finalists for the\u00a0prix Ruth Schwartz de litt\u00e9rature jeunesse\u00a0<\/strong>were announced today.\u00a0 This national award\u00a0\u00f3\u00a0<\/em>l'un d\u00e9cern\u00e9 \u00e0 un livre illustr\u00e9, l'autre \u00e0 un livre pour jeunes lecteurs\u00a0\u00f3<\/em>\u00a0recognizes authors and illustrators from across Canada who demonstrate artistic excellence in children’s literature.\u00a0<\/p>

Deux jurys, compos\u00e9s d'\u00e9l\u00cbves de\u00a0Rose Avenue Public School<\/strong>\u00a0in Toronto, Ontario, will adjudicate and announce the winners at\u00a01:30 p.m<\/strong>. on\u00a0May 7, 2003\u00a0<\/strong>at the school. This year the prize money has been doubled from $5,000 to\u00a0$10,000<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>

La\u00a0Livre pour jeunes lecteurs<\/strong>\u00a0book category will be judged by students in grades 6.\u00a0\u00a0 Grade 4 students will award the children’s\u00a0picture book<\/strong>\u00a0prize, which is split between the author and illustrator. If the winning picture book is authored and illustrated by two creators, they will share\u00a0$6,000<\/strong>\u00a0($3,000 each) and the young adult\/middle book author will be awarded\u00a0$4,000<\/strong>. If the creator of the picture book is both author and illustrator, the two categories will have equal awards of $5,000.\u00a0<\/p>
