Toronto, 11 d\u00e9cembre 2002\u00a0<\/strong>- <\/em>La huiti\u00cbme remise annuelle des Prix du lieutenant-gouverneur pour les arts (Prix Jackman-Bickell)\u00a0<\/strong>a eu lieu aujourd'hui; dix-sept organismes vou\u00e9s aux arts qui oeuvrent \u00e0 travers l'Ontario ont re\u00c1u ces prix, lors d'une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie tenue \u00e0 Queen's Park, \u00e0 Toronto.<\/p>

Ces r\u00e9compenses estim\u00e9es constituent les\u00a0prix en argent les plus consid\u00e9rables \u00e0 \u00cdtre vers\u00e9s \u00e0 des organismes du domaine des arts, au Canada<\/strong>; elles rendent hommage \u00e0 des organismes \u00e9tablis en Ontario qui ont d\u00e9montr\u00e9 avoir recueilli un soutien exceptionnel aupr\u00cbs de la collectivit\u00e9 et du secteur priv\u00e9, tout en maintenant un niveau \u00e9lev\u00e9 d'excellence artistique.\u00a0\u00a0

Ce\u00a0programme permettant d'accorder des r\u00e9compenses d'une valeur totale de 300 000 dollars<\/strong>\u00a0est le seul du genre au Canada. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 par\u00a0l'honorable Henry N.R. Jackman<\/strong>, en 1995, alors que ce dernier \u00e9tait\u00a0lieutenant-gouverneur de l'Ontario<\/strong>; il a depuis permis d'attribuer\u00a0\u00a0145<\/strong>\u00a0prix d'une valeur totale de\u00a02 235 000 dollars<\/strong> \u00e0\u00a081\u00a0<\/strong>organismes diff\u00e9rents qui s'occupent des arts, \u00e0 travers la province.

Les dix-sept organismes gagnants du secteur des arts \u00e0 qui ont rendu hommage aujourd'hui\u00a0l'honorable James K. Bartleman, lieutenant-gouverneur de l'Ontario, l'honorable Henry N.R. Jackman,<\/strong>\u00a0ancien lieutenant-gouverneur de l'Ontario,\u00a0Victoria Jackman<\/strong>, directrice g\u00e9n\u00e9rale de la\u00a0Henry N.R. Jackman Foundation<\/strong> et\u00a0David Windeyer<\/strong>, secr\u00e9taire du comit\u00e9 de gestion de la\u00a0J.P. Bickell Foundation<\/strong>, sont \u00e9tablis \u00e0\u00a0Drayton, Kitchener-Waterloo, London, Ottawa\u00a0<\/strong>et\u00a0Toronto,\u00a0<\/strong>en Ontario.\u00a0<\/strong>Les r\u00e9compenses de cette ann\u00e9e sont attribu\u00e9es comme suit : un prix de\u00a050 000 dollars,\u00a0<\/strong>six prix de\u00a025 000 dollars<\/strong>\u00a0et dix prix de\u00a010 000 dollars.<\/strong>

La compagnie th\u00e9\u201atrale\u00a0Soulpepper Theatre Company\u00a0<\/strong>a re\u00c1u le plus grand prix, celui de\u00a050 000 dollars\u00a0<\/strong>, par suite de ses nombreuses initiatives qui lui ont permis d'aller chercher des recettes aupr\u00cbs du secteur priv\u00e9. C'est la deuxi\u00cbme ann\u00e9e cons\u00e9cutive qu'elle d\u00e9croche le principal prix et la troisi\u00cbme fois en quatre ans qu'elle re\u00c1oit un\u00a0Prix du lieutenant-gouverneur pour les arts.<\/strong>\u00a0

\u00b4 Je f\u00e9licite chacun des r\u00e9cipiendaires d'aujourd'hui, lesquels ont d\u00e9montr\u00e9 \u00e0 quel point la cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9 peut \u00cdtre une force motrice, une force qui peut mener les organismes vou\u00e9s aux arts vers le succ\u00cbs, tant sur sc\u00cbne que hors sc\u00cbne \u00aa, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9\u00a0l'honorable James K. Bartleman<\/strong>,\u00a0lieutenant-gouverneur de l'Ontario<\/strong>. \u00b4 La cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9 et l'ing\u00e9niosit\u00e9 sont la cl\u00e9 du succ\u00cbs quant \u00e0 tous les aspects des arts, dans tous les coins de la province. \u00aa

Henry N.R. Jackman<\/strong> a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le Prix du lieutenant-gouverneur pour les arts<\/strong> en 1995, en faisant un don d'un million de dollars<\/strong> \u00e0 la Fondation du Conseil des arts de l'Ontario (FCAO)<\/strong>. En 1996, les r\u00e9compenses ont augment\u00e9 pour atteindre la somme de 300 000 dollars, gr\u201ace \u00e0 deux engagements annuels : une somme additionnelle de 75 000 dollars offerte par la Henry N.R. Jackman Foundation<\/strong> et un montant de 150 000 dollars provenant de la J.P. Bickell Foundation<\/strong>.<\/p>

Les laur\u00e9ats de cette ann\u00e9e ont \u00e9t\u00e9 choisis par une tribune distingu\u00e9e se composant des personnes suivantes : Victoria Jackman<\/strong>, directrice g\u00e9n\u00e9rale de la Henry N.R. Jackman Foundation; David Windeyer<\/strong>, secr\u00e9taire du comit\u00e9 de gestion de la J.P. Bickell Foundation; Gwenlyn Setterfield<\/strong>, auteure et ancienne directrice g\u00e9n\u00e9rale du Conseil des arts de l'Ontario; Nancy Lockhart<\/strong>, femme d'affaires.<\/p>

La Fondation du Conseil des arts de l'Ontario<\/strong> g\u00cbre le fonds de dotation qui finance les Prix du lieutenant-gouverneur pour les arts; elle administre aussi le processus de s\u00e9lection. Cr\u00e9\u00e9e en 1991 comme fondation publique de bienfaisance, a FCAO g\u00cbre des fonds provenant de particuliers et particuli\u00cbres qui veulent soutenir les arts et elle administre le programme du Fonds de dotation pour les arts du gouvernement de l'Ontario, lequel est dot\u00e9 d'une somme de 50 000 000 de dollars.<\/p>
