Toronto, le 17 juin 2020 \u2013 Le cr\u00e9ateur de costumes, Sean Mulcahy<\/a> est le laur\u00e9at 2020 du Prix Virginia et Myrtle Cooper pour la cr\u00e9ation de costumes<\/strong> d\u2019un montant de 20 000 dollars. Ce prix est d\u00e9cern\u00e9 tous les ans \u00e0 une costumi\u00e8re ou \u00e0 un costumier professionnel qui travaille en Ontario et qui est en milieu de sa carri\u00e8re.<\/p>\n

\"Sean<\/p>\n

A propos de Sean Mulcahy<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Sean est un d\u00e9corateur qui vit \u00e0 Toronto et dont le travail a \u00e9t\u00e9 vu au travers de l'Am\u00e9rique du nord, y compris au Manitoba Theatre for Young People, le Prairie Theatre Exchange, Rainbow Stage, le Sudbury Theatre Centre, Drayton Entertainment, Obsidian Theatre Company, Canadian Stage, le Harold Green Jewish Theatre, Thousand Islands Playhouse et Neptune Theatre. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9corateur adjoint au Festival Stratford pendant sept saisons et le d\u00e9corateur inaugural pour \u00ab Es Artes, the Stratford Suchitoto Project. \u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n

Il a re\u00e7u un prix Guthrie et un prix Tom Patterson (Stratford Festival) et a re\u00e7u trois prix Robert Merritt (8 nominations, Theatre Nova Scotia). Il a re\u00e7u le meilleur design de costumes de groupe (Pride Toronto) et a \u00e9t\u00e9 s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9 pour le prix Pauline McGibbon en 2011.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sean est dipl\u00f4m\u00e9 du programme de production et de conception de th\u00e9\u00e2tre de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 York (BFA avec distinction) et titulaire d\u2019un Certificat d'\u00c9tudes sup\u00e9rieures (PGCert.) en administration des arts et gestion culturelle du Humber College. Il est membre des Associated Designers of Canada et professeur de design \u00e0 l'\u00e9cole d'\u00e9ducation permanente G. Raymond Chang de l'Universit\u00e9 Ryerson.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sean a \u00e9t\u00e9 s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9e comme le gagnant au sein d'un groupe de candidats exceptionnels. Le jury de cette ann\u00e9e \u00e9tait compos\u00e9 d'Andrea Donaldson<\/strong>, directrice artistique du Nightwood Theatre (Toronto), de Julia Kim<\/strong>, cr\u00e9atrice \u00e9mergente de d\u00e9cors et de costumes (Toronto), et de Gillian Gallow<\/strong>, cr\u00e9atrice de costume et laur\u00e9ate pour 2018 du prix (Toronto).<\/p>\n

Le jury a \u00e9t\u00e9 unanime dans son choix de Sean Mulcahy comme laur\u00e9at 2020, d\u00e9clarant : \u00ab Le travail de Sean est audacieux et original. Il a un fort sens de la texture qu'il utilise pour aider \u00e0 animer les personnages. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n

A propos le prix<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n

Le Prix Virginia et Myrtle Cooper pour la cr\u00e9ation de costumes, cr\u00e9\u00e9 gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un don g\u00e9n\u00e9reux dans le testament de la Dr Virginia Cooper, est attribu\u00e9 \u00ab pour l\u2019amour de la cr\u00e9ation \u00bb. Dr Cooper a \u00e9t\u00e9 directrice du th\u00e9\u00e2tre Tarragon et elle \u00e9tait membre fondatrice du Arts and Letters Club de Toronto, auquel elle participait activement. Elle s\u2019int\u00e9ressait vivement aux arts de la sc\u00e8ne, en particulier \u00e0 la conception des costumes.<\/p>\n

La Fondation des arts de l'Ontario g\u00e8re le fonds de dotation qui finance le Prix. Le Conseil des arts de l\u2019Ontario g\u00e8re le processus de nomination et de s\u00e9lection pour le prix.<\/p>\n
