Toronto, le 22 mai 2019: Le baryton-basse Gerald Finley<\/strong>, l\u2019un des plus grands chanteurs et interpr\u00e8tes dramatiques du Canada de sa g\u00e9n\u00e9ration, a re\u00e7u le prix Paul de Hueck et Norman Walford de r\u00e9alisation professionnelle<\/strong> de 30 000 $. Ce prix souligne les r\u00e9alisations exceptionnelles dans le domaine du chant classique. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 hier soir lors d\u2019un \u00e9v\u00e9nement sp\u00e9cial organis\u00e9 avec la production de \u00ab Otello \u00bb de la Compagnie d\u2019op\u00e9ra canadienne<\/a>, pour laquelle M. Finley a interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 le r\u00f4le de Iago.<\/p>\n

A propos Gerald Finley<\/strong>
\nGerald Finley a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 chanter en tant que choriste \u00e0 Ottawa, au Canada, et a termin\u00e9 ses \u00e9tudes musicales au Royaume-Uni au Royal College of Music, au King\u2019s College \u00e0 Cambridge et au National Opera Studio. Il a acquis une grande renomm\u00e9e internationale et a chant\u00e9 tous les grands r\u00f4les de baryton de Mozart. Son Don Giovanni a \u00e9t\u00e9 vu \u00e0 New York, Londres, Paris, Rome, Vienne, Prague, Tel Aviv, Glyndebourne et Budapest, et r\u00e9cemment aux festivals de Salzbourg et de Munich. Dans le r\u00f4le du Comte Almaviva dans \u00ab Le nozze di Figaro \u00bb, ses performances incluent notamment le Royal Opera Covent Garden, le Festival de Salzbourg (2007, 2009), Paris, Amsterdam, le Metropolitan Opera New York, le Staatsoper de Vienne et le Bayerische Staatsoper de Munich.<\/p>\n

Au cours des derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, ses performances salu\u00e9es ont notamment inclus son retour \u00e0 Toronto en tant que Falstaff de Verdi, Wolfram (Tannh\u00e4user) au Chicago Lyric Opera, dans le r\u00f4le principal de Nick Shadow au Met, dans le r\u00f4le principal de Guillaume Tell de Rossini au Covent Garden, au Met et \u00e0 Munich, dans le r\u00f4le de Hans Sachs \u00e0 l'Op\u00e9ra de Paris et \u00e0 Glyndebourne dans deux c\u00e9l\u00e8bres productions de \u00ab Die Meistersinger von N\u00fcrnberg \u00bb.<\/p>\n

Son travail dans l'op\u00e9ra contemporain et l'orchestre en concert est \u00e9galement prestigieux. Au cours des derni\u00e8res saisons, il a chant\u00e9 de nouvelles \u0153uvres \u00e9crites pour lui, notamment \u00ab Songs of Love and Sorrow \u00bb de Peter Lieberson avec le Boston Symphony Orchestra, \u00abTrue Fire \u00bb de Kaija Saariaho \u00e0 la Philharmonique de Los Angeles avec Gustavo Dudamel, et il a inaugur\u00e9 et enregistr\u00e9 une nouvelle \u0153uvre \u00ab Rub\u00e1iy\u00e1t \u00bb du compositeur finlandais Einojuhani Rautavaara, d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 r\u00e9cemment, avec le Philharmonique de Helsinki et John Storg\u00e5rds.<\/p>\n

Finley a \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9 officier de l'Ordre du Canada en juillet 2014 et commandant de l'Ordre de l'Empire britannique en 2017.
