Dur\u00e1n a grandi \u00e0 La Havane dans une famille de musiciens entour\u00e9s de diverses influences musicales. Il a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 travailler comme musicien professionnel au sein de l\u2019ensemble Los Papa Cun-Cun de Cuba et fut le successeur de Chucho Vald\u00e9s dans le big band le plus moderne du pays, Orquesta Cubana de M\u00fasica Moderna. Dans les ann\u00e9es 90, en tant que membre du groupe Arturo Sandoval, Dur\u00e1n a effectu\u00e9 une tourn\u00e9e dans le monde entier et a eu l'occasion de se produire notamment avec Dizzy Gillespie et Michel Legrand.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"plain_grey\">Depuis son arriv\u00e9e au Canada, Dur\u00e1n s'est \u00e9tabli en son propre nom. Il est laur\u00e9at de plusieurs prix Juno, a \u00e9t\u00e9 candidat aux Grammy Awards; candidat et laur\u00e9at de plusieurs prix canadiens de jazz ; et r\u00e9cipiendaire du prix Chico O\u2019Farrill Lifetime Achievement Award en 2007 d\u00e9cern\u00e9 par Latin Jazz USA pour ses contributions remarquables au jazz afro cubain et au jazz latino. Dur\u00e1n fait partie de la sc\u00e8ne musicale torontoise et a \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9 \u00ab l'un des 10 Canadiens d'origine hispanique les plus influents \u00bb en 2009, meilleur artiste de l'ann\u00e9e 2013 par la Toronto Musicians 'Association et laur\u00e9at du prix 2014 de la meilleure vision (Premio a la Trayectoria) pour son travail d\u2019entrepreneur dirigeant sa soci\u00e9t\u00e9 ES MI MUSICA PRODUCTIONS.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"plain_grey\">Dur\u00e1n est professeur auxiliaire de piano et directeur d'ensemble \u00e0 la facult\u00e9 de jazz du Coll\u00e8ge Humber.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive img-padded pull-left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.oafdn.ca\/system\/uploads\/attachments\/000\/000\/585\/original\/ap_resize.png?1501707026\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><b><br><br><br><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Commentaires du Jury<\/strong><br>\nLe jury a \u00e9t\u00e9 unanime dans son choix et a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 : \u00ab Les compositions de Dur\u00e1n sont complexes et luxuriantes. Sa musique est \u00e0 la fois lyrique et m\u00e9lodique, avec de belles harmonies et des r\u00e9sultats passionn\u00e9s. Sa contribution \u00e0 la forme artistique et sa voix artistique sont tellement importantes aujourd'hui, tant au Canada que dans le monde. Sa musique est enracin\u00e9e dans la tradition, mais il continue de progresser. Les compositions de Dur\u00e1n ne r\u00e9chauffent pas seulement votre esprit, mais \u00e9galement votre \u00e2me. \u00bb<br><br>\n\nLe jury de cette ann\u00e9e consistait d'<strong>Alexis Baro<\/strong>, musicien (Toronto), <strong>Kellylee Evans<\/strong>, chanteuse (Ottawa), et <strong>Allan Walsh<\/strong>, musicien, \u00e9ducateur et programmateur de festival (Sudbury).<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Le Fonds Louis Applebaum<\/strong><br>\nLe <strong>Fonds Louis Applebaum<\/strong> pour les compositeurs a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tabli \u00e0 la Fondation des arts de l'Ontario en 1998 par <strong>Louis Applebaum<\/strong> pour reconna\u00eetre l\u2019excellence en composition musicale quant \u00e0 tout genre que se soit. Le compositeur canadien Louis Applebaum a consacr\u00e9 sa vie au r\u00e9veil culturel du Canada et cette magnifique obsession l\u2019a amen\u00e9 \u00e0 devenir un fondateur de la Ligue canadienne des compositeurs ainsi que du Centre de musique canadienne. Il a contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 la cr\u00e9ation de l\u2019Office national du film du Canada, du festival de Stratford et du Centre national des Arts, \u00e0 Ottawa.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"plain_grey\">La Fondation des arts de l'Ontario g\u00e8re le fonds de dotation qui finance le Prix.
