Toronto, le 3 mai 2018 - La liste des finalistes 2018 des prix Ruth et Sylvia Schwartz de litt\u00e9rature jeunesse a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9voil\u00e9e aujourd'hui. Ce sont les seuls prix litt\u00e9raires canadiens dont les livres prim\u00e9s sont choisis par des jurys compos\u00e9s uniquement d\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8ves.<\/p>\n

Deux jurys d'\u00e9l\u00e8ves de la Sprucecourt Public School<\/a> de Toronto choisiront cette ann\u00e9e les laur\u00e9ats, dont le nom sera annonc\u00e9 le 20 juin 2018 lors d'une assembl\u00e9e scolaire.<\/p>\n

LA CUV\u00c9E 2018<\/strong>
\nLes finalistes de cette ann\u00e9e forment un groupe d'auteurs de d'illustrateurs vari\u00e9s et accomplis. Ils comprennent Cherie Dimaline<\/strong>, laureate d'un prix Kirkus et d'un prix litt\u00e9raire du Gouverneur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, et Deborah Ellis<\/strong>, don't le livre The Breadwinner a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9cemment adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 l'\u00e9cran et mis en nomination aux oscars. Dans le volet Livre illustr\u00e9<\/strong>, les textes s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9s, servis par de superbes images, portent notamment sur l'adaption aux changements et la cr\u00e9ation de liens entre les g\u00e9n\u00e9rations. Les ouvrages en lice dans le volet Livre pour jeunes lecteurs<\/strong> traitent entre autres de la r\u00e9silience et du courage - \u00e0 partir de la mani\u00e8re dont les personnages font face \u00e0 l'adversit\u00e9 dans des dystopies ou surmontent les difficulties de l'adolescence.<\/p>\n

\nDeux prix de 6 000 $ chacun<\/strong>, attibu\u00e9s chaque ann\u00e9e<\/strong>, rendent hommage aux auteurs et aux illustrateurs canadiens qui se sont distingu\u00e9s par leur excellence dans le domaine de la litt\u00e9rature enfantine de langue anglaise. Les laur\u00e9ats sont choisis par deux jurys de jeunes lecteurs. Cette ann\u00e9e, les jurys se composent d'\u00e9l\u00e8ves de la Sprucecourt Public School<\/strong> de Toronto. Cinq \u00e9l\u00e8ves de 3e<\/sup> et 4e<\/sup> ann\u00e9e<\/strong> choisiront les laur\u00e9ats du volet Livre illustr\u00e9<\/strong>. Cinq \u00e9l\u00e8ves de 7e<\/sup> et 8e<\/sup> ann\u00e9e<\/strong> choisiront le laur\u00e9at du volet Livre pour jeunes lecteurs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nLes prix Ruth et Sylvia Schwartz de litt\u00e9rature jeunesse ont \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9s en 1976 par Sylvia Schwartz \u00e0 la m\u00e9moire de sa s\u0153ur Ruth Schwartz, libraire torontoise respect\u00e9e. En 2004, la famille a renomm\u00e9 le prix pour rendre hommage aux deux s\u0153urs.La Fondation des arts de l'Ontario administre ces prix avec l'aide du Conseil des arts de l'Ontario, qui g\u00e8re le processus de mise en candidature et de s\u00e9lection par jury. \u00c9tablie en 1991, la Fondation des arts de l'Ontario (FAO)<\/strong><\/a> est passionn\u00e9ment engag\u00e9e \u00e0 construire un soutien \u00e0 long terme pour les arts en Ontario. En 2016-2017, la FAO a vers\u00e9 plus de 3,2 millions de dollars en revenus de dotation et 375 000 dollars en prix et bourses.<\/p>\n
