The award afforded me the opportunity to keep composing and working on my music and share it with international audiences.\u00a0&#8220;<\/em><\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong><span class=\"blue\">What are you currently doing?<\/span><\/strong><\/p><p><span class=\"plain_grey\">I am\u00a0currently working on several projects as a pianist &#8211; composer in NY. My albums are being released by\u00a0the legendary jazz\/classical\u00a0label ECM out of Munich, and I\u00a0tour and record with both my own groups and as a sideman with many leading artists. I have two recording projects coming out in the next few months. I&#8217;m thankful that my work has gathered acclaim\u00a0from\u00a0critics and musicians alike.\u00a0\u00a0<br \/><br \/><\/span><\/p><p><span class=\"blue\"><strong>What did receiving the\u00a0Louis Applebaum Composers Award\u00a0mean to you?<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<\/p><p><span class=\"plain_grey\">Receiving the Louis Applebaum Composers Award literally meant bringing my craft and career to the next level. The award afforded me the opportunity to keep composing and working on my music and share it with international audiences, at a very crucial time in my personal development.\u00a0I was able to achieve great creative momentum after receiving the award. I eventually moved to NY where I have been\u00a0welcomed into\u00a0the artistic community,\u00a0while keeping\u00a0strong creative\u00a0ties with fellow Canadian artists\u00a0and bringing my work\u00a0to Canadian audiences.\u00a0\u00a0<br \/><br \/><\/span><\/p><p><span class=\"blue\"><strong>What does private arts philanthropy mean to you as a working artist?<\/strong><\/span><\/p><p><span class=\"plain_grey\">Private arts philanthropy means a lot as a working\u00a0artist. Without this support, many ideas would not come to fruition, in a world where support for the arts is increasingly\u00a0limited. Some of the greatest artists\u00a0historically\u00a0had this support, and who knows what their output might have looked like if that wasn&#8217;t the case.
