What are you currently doing?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

It’s been a very busy couple of years for me since I won the award.\u00a0 I’ve scored a couple of studio animation features, one for Pixar (The Good Dinosaur) and one for Warner Brothers (Storks). I’ve worked on various TV series and other features, including Ang Lee’s Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, and performed a commission for the Toronto Symphony for the anniversary of the Armenian genocide. I’m also currently building a studio at the corner of Hollywood and Vine in Los Angeles.\u00a0

What did receiving the\u00a0Louis Applebaum Composers Award\u00a0mean to you?<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<\/p>

I\u00a0was thrilled to be honoured with this award, named for a man who blazed the path for Canadian composers of film, television, and theatre music.\u00a0I believe that\u00a0I am part of the same lineage as Louis Applebaum, something that I am very proud of, working in various media and\u00a0collaborating\u00a0with visual and dramatic artists, something he would certainly relate to!
<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>

What does private arts philanthropy mean to you as a working artist?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>

Private arts\u00a0philanthropy is hugely important, especially in a country like Canada where there has been a long period of decreasing government support for the arts. In fact\u00a0I donated the cash portion of my Louis Applebaum Award to my\u00a0alma mater the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto, which was so significant in the establishment of my career in film music. Louis Applebaum inspired my generation with our first steps, and so it just seemed right to pay this forward to aid in the training of the next generation of composers here in Canada.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
