Toronto, le 25 mars 2026 \u2013 L\u2019illustre danseuse et chor\u00e9graphe Lata Pada<\/strong> est la laur\u00e9ate du Prix en danse de la famille Eldred<\/a>. Ce prix annuel reconnait les r\u00e9alisations exceptionnelles et la capacit\u00e9 cr\u00e9ative en danse d'une ou d'un chor\u00e9graphe ontarien(ne) \u00e9tabli(e) et il est dot\u00e9 d\u2019une prime de 60 000 dollars.<\/p>

A partir de 2026, le prix en danse de la famille Eldred d\u00e9cernera \u00e9galement un Prix Prot\u00e9g\u00e9<\/strong> annuel afin de soutenir et de reconnaitre des chor\u00e9graphes \u00e9mergents en Ontario. Cette ann\u00e9e Lata Pada<\/strong> a choisi Tanveer Alam<\/strong> pour recevoir le Prix Prot\u00e9g\u00e9 et sa prime de 10 000 dollars.<\/p>

A propos de Lata Pada<\/strong>
\"\"Lata Pada<\/strong> est la fondatrice et directrice artistique \u00e9m\u00e9rite de SAMPRADAYA Dance Creations, une compagnie de danse prim\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019avant-garde de la danse indienne au Canada. Elle a eu une brillante carri\u00e8re d'artiste, de chercheuse, d\u2019educatrice en danse, de productrice et de consultante en arts et culture, et elle dirige la SAMPRADAYA Dance Academy, le principal organisme de formation en Bharatanatyam au Canada.<\/p>

Au cours des quarante cinq derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, elle a bati une institution de renomm\u00e9e internationale pour la danse indienne au Canada et a \u00e9t\u00e9 reconnue comme une pionni\u00e8re importante dans la promotion et la reconnaissance de la danse indienne sur les principales sc\u00e8nes du Canada.<\/p>

Lata a eu une grande carri\u00e8re internationale de soliste de Bharatanatyam. Elle est titlaire d\u2019une maitrise en danse de l\u2019universit\u00e9 York (1996). Elle apporte une perspective universelle \u00e0 ses cr\u00e9ations chor\u00e9graphiques, reconnues pour leur explorations originales et captivantes \u00e0 la fois classiques et contemporaines.<\/p>

Parmi ses nombreuses distinctions, Lata a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9cor\u00e9e de l'Ordre du Canada (2009) et a re\u00e7u le Pravasi Bharatiya Samman (2010), d\u00e9cern\u00e9 par le Pr\u00e9sident de l'Inde.<\/p>

D\u00e9claration de l'artiste<\/strong>
\u00ab Recevoir la nouvelle d\u2019avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 honor\u00e9e par l\u2019attribution du Prix en danse de la famille Eldred<\/strong> a certainement \u00e9t\u00e9 l\u2019un des moments marquants de ma carri\u00e8re de danseuse. Ce prix vient couronner plus de cinquante ans de carri\u00e8re professionnelle dans la danse, une carri\u00e8re qui a embrass\u00e9 l\u2019enseignement, l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation, la chor\u00e9graphie, le mentorat et la promotion de cette discipline. Pour moi, cette prestigieuse r\u00e9compense reconna\u00eet le dynamisme et l\u2019essor de la danse sud-asiatique au Canada, dont j\u2019ai \u00e9t\u00e9 et demeure fi\u00e8re de faire partie. Chaque jour, je suis reconnaissante des enseignements et des occasions que j\u2019ai de travailler avec des \u00e9tudiants, des jeunes professionnels et la communaut\u00e9 de la danse, contribuant ainsi \u00e0 forger des nouveaux futures pour la danse canadienne dans son excellence, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la collaboration et \u00e0 la reconnaissance. Je remercie le Conseil des arts de l\u2019Ontario, la Fondation des arts de l\u2019Ontario et la famille Eldred pour cette reconnaissance. \u00bb<\/p>

Le jury \u00e9tait unanime dans leur choix de Lata Pada<\/strong> comme laur\u00e9ate pour le prix en danse de la famille Eldred. Ils ont d\u00e9clar\u00e9: \u00ab Lata est l\u2019une des figures les plus respect\u00e9es de la communaut\u00e9 de la danse \u00e0 Toronto. Son travail chor\u00e9graphique se distingue par un raffinement esth\u00e9tique, une r\u00e9sonnance \u00e9motionnelle, une clart\u00e9 et une intentionnalit\u00e9. En s\u00e9lectionnant Tanveer Alam<\/strong><\/a>, Lata Pada reconna\u00eet une nouvelle g\u00e9n\u00e9ration d'artistes qui enrichissent le langage du Kathak et de la performance contemporaine en Ontario.<\/p>

Tanveer Alam, residant \u00e0 Toronto, a commenc\u00e9 sa formation en Kathak aupr\u00e8s de Sudeshna Maulik et a approfondi ses \u00e9tudes avec la guru Sandhya Desai. Alam est dipl\u00f4m\u00e9 en danse contemporaine occidentale du Dance Arts Institute of Canada (DAI) en 2019. Tanveer a \u00e9galement suivi une formation en Kathak aupr\u00e8s de Pandita Shama Bhate et Sanjukta Sinha. Il b\u00e9n\u00e9ficie actuellement du mentorat de Harikishan S. Nair et Dheerendra Tiwari.<\/p>

Alam a dans\u00e9 dans des \u0153uvres de Rina Singha, Lata Pada, Padmini Chettur, Harikishan S. Nair, Sashar Zarif, Lucy Rupert et Peter Chin, entre autres. Chor\u00e9graphe \u00e9mergent, il a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 ses cr\u00e9ations aux festivals SummerWorks, Battery Dance Festival +, Luminato et Tangente.<\/p>

Au cours de la saison 2025\/2026, Alam a dans\u00e9 ses propres cr\u00e9ations lors de festivals tels que Fall for Dance North (Toronto), au Mus\u00e9e Aga Khan (Toronto) et au Centre culturel Nita Mukesh Ambani (Mumbai). Il a \u00e9galement effectu\u00e9 une tourn\u00e9e \u00e0 Singapour et en Inde dans le cadre de la nouvelle cr\u00e9ation de SAMPRADAYA Dance Creations, \u00ab Kintsugi \u00bb<\/em>. Plus r\u00e9cemment, il a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 son solo \u00ab Aakarsh \u00bb<\/em> lors du prestigieux 28e festival Vasantotsava Kathak, pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 par Kalashram \u00e0 New Delhi, en Inde.<\/p>

Le Prix en danse de la famille Eldred (Eldred Family Dance Award) a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tabli \u00e0 la fondation des arts de l'Ontario par feu Gerald (Gerry) Eldred, \u00e9minent cadre artistique canadien et feu Marjorie Eldred, ancienne enseignante \u00e0 l'\u00c9cole nationale de ballet. Le prix reconna\u00eet les r\u00e9alisations exceptionnelles et la capacit\u00e9 cr\u00e9ative en danse d'une ou d'un chor\u00e9graphe ontarien(ne) \u00e9tabli(e).
