Elle milite fi\u00e8rement pour la justice sociale des handicaps \u00e0 travers son travail de fondatrice et actuelle directrice artistique de Sick + Twisted Theatre. Elle est \u00e9galement fondatrice de Shakespeare in the Ruins, a \u00e9t\u00e9 l\u2019artiste associ\u00e9e au Prairie Theatre Exchange, \u00e9crivaine en r\u00e9sidence \u00e0 l'Universit\u00e9 de Winnipeg et membre de la troupe de th\u00e9\u00e2tre du Festival de Stratford en 2023. Elle a \u00e0 c\u0153ur de soutenir les autres cr\u00e9ateurs de th\u00e9\u00e2tre en situation de handicap et de faire conna\u00eetre l'exp\u00e9rience v\u00e9cue du handicap dans le milieu th\u00e9\u00e2tral traditionnel. Elle si\u00e8ge au conseil d'administration de la Guilde des dramaturges du Canada, au comit\u00e9 consultatif du Fonds national de cr\u00e9ation et \u00e0 des comit\u00e9s consultatifs professionnels \u00e0 l'Universit\u00e9 Sheridan et \u00e0 l'Universit\u00e9 M\u00e9tropolitaine de Toronto (TMU). Elle a re\u00e7u la M\u00e9daille du couronnement du roi Charles III, le prix de l'activiste de l'ann\u00e9e des comit\u00e9s de la Plateforme d'action des Nations Unies et le prix \u00ab Making a Mark \u00bb de la Ville de Winnipeg. Elle vit en fauteuil roulant \u00e0 Winnipeg (Trait\u00e9 1) et dans un chalet sur les rives du lac Winnipeg (Trait\u00e9 2) avec son partenaire de longue date, Arne MacPherson.<\/p><p><strong>D\u00e9claration de l'artiste:<\/strong><br \/>Je suis tr\u00e8s touch\u00e9e par cette reconnaissance et honor\u00e9e de rejoindre ces femmes exceptionnelles qui ont partag\u00e9 cet honneur par le pass\u00e9 et qui sont nomin\u00e9es \u00e0 mes c\u00f4t\u00e9s aujourd'hui. Dr. anitafrika est l\u2019auteure de douze pi\u00e8ces de th\u00e9\u00e2tre, a publi\u00e9 sept albums de po\u00e9sie dub et quatre recueils de po\u00e9sie, et a \u00e9t\u00e9 t\u00eate d\u2019affiche de festivals et de saisons th\u00e9\u00e2trales \u00e0 travers le monde. Leur doctorat porte sur la cr\u00e9ation th\u00e9orique des femmes noires au th\u00e9\u00e2tre et aborde des lacunes importantes dans la recherche sur la performance au Elle est artiste membre permanente de l'Electric Company Theatre et a \u00e9crit ou co\u00e9crit plus de vingt-cinq pi\u00e8ces de th\u00e9\u00e2tre ainsi que deux m\u00e9moires \u00e0 succ\u00e8s international. La premi\u00e8re de sa pi\u00e8ce <em>\u00ab Fire Never Dies: The Tina Modotti Project \u00bb<\/em>\u00bb, qu'elle a \u00e9galement mise en sc\u00e8ne, a affich\u00e9 complet en 2025 et a re\u00e7u d'excellentes critiques du public et de la presse sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9e. <em>\u00ab The Consent Club \u00bb<\/em>, une adaptation des <em>\u00ab Dames savantes \u00bb<\/em> de Moli\u00e8re et une satire mordante de la gentrification li\u00e9e au mouvement Me Too, sera pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e en premi\u00e8re \u00e0 Vancouver en 2028. Carmen met actuellement en sc\u00e8ne la premi\u00e8re de <em>\u00ab Deserters \u00bb<\/em> de Kenneth T. Williams \u00e0 l'Universit\u00e9 de l'Alberta et dirigera des projets passionnants \u00e0 travers le Canada au cours de la prochaine saison. Elle est dipl\u00f4m\u00e9e du Studio 58. <a href=\"https:\/\/carmenaguirre.ca\/\">Carmenaguirre.ca<\/a><\/p><p><strong>Que signifie \u00eatre finaliste pour moi ?<\/strong> <br \/>L\u2019engagement de Gina envers la collaboration et la pr\u00e9servation du r\u00e9cit, en affrontant les limites de la peur, confirme et inspire ma propre approche du travail. En tant que praticienne de th\u00e9\u00e2tre qui s\u2019efforce de trouver un \u00e9quilibre entre le service aux autres et ma propre vision artistique, convaincue que sans peur, on ne creuse pas assez profond\u00e9ment et que le v\u00e9ritable art est une forme d\u2019\u00e9coute, et qui m\u2019attache \u00e0 faire preuve d\u2019int\u00e9grit\u00e9 dans tout ce que j\u2019entreprends dans ce secteur, je suis profond\u00e9ment touch\u00e9e et honor\u00e9e d\u2019\u00eatre parmi ces coll\u00e8gues si respect\u00e9s. J\u2019ai connu Gina. Elle travaille dans les milieux professionnels, communautaires et \u00e9ducatifs. Collaboratrice r\u00e9guli\u00e8re du Globe Theatre, elle a contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 plus de 30 projets en tant que metteuse en sc\u00e8ne, com\u00e9dienne, dramaturge et cr\u00e9atrice. Elle est metteuse en sc\u00e8ne invit\u00e9e au programme de th\u00e9\u00e2tre participatif de l'Universit\u00e9 de Regina et a \u00e9galement travaill\u00e9 en r\u00e9sidence avec l'organisme artistique Listen to Dis', dirig\u00e9 par des personnes en situation de handicap, ainsi qu'avec That's Possible, un programme de th\u00e9\u00e2tre inclusif \u00e0 l'\u00e9cole secondaire Riffel de Regina. Ses cr\u00e9ations r\u00e9centes explorent la crise climatique \u00e0 travers des projets collaboratifs, interdisciplinaires et interg\u00e9n\u00e9rationnels, notamment <em>\u00ab The Last Children \u00bb<\/em> (2022), cr\u00e9\u00e9 avec David Gagnon Walker, et \u00ab The Council for All Children \u00bb (2025), avec Shaunna Dunn. Elle croyait en la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 de s'amuser dans la salle de r\u00e9p\u00e9tition, sur sc\u00e8ne et en coulisses, et dans tous les aspects de la vie. Dans l'esprit de l'app\u00e9tit de Gina pour la vie, le prix est un cadeau \u00e0 utiliser de la mani\u00e8re choisie par la r\u00e9cipiendaire.
