Toronto, le 9 janvier 2024 \u2013 Suba Sankaran<\/strong> remporte le $10,000<\/strong> Prix Kathleen McMorrow de musique<\/strong>. Le prix reconna\u00eet la composition et la pr\u00e9sentation de musique classique contemporaine par des compositeurs ontariens. Le prix de cette ann\u00e9e soutient le prochain projet de Suba, \u00ab Blue Skies, Red Earth, Tall Pines \u00bb<\/em><\/a> , en collaboration avec Gather Round Singers du Jumblies Theatre, City Choir et Autorickshaw. L\u2019\u0153uvre aborde le th\u00e8me des passages de fronti\u00e8res \u00e0 la fois litt\u00e9raux et m\u00e9taphoriques, r\u00e9unissant po\u00e9sie, chansons, histoires et une curiosit\u00e9 de relier la musique chorale occidentale aux traditions musicales orientales.

Suba Sankaran est une artiste de musique du monde \/ fusion renomm\u00e9e, laur\u00e9ate d'un prix Dora et trois fois nomin\u00e9e aux JUNO, qui combine sans effort les mondes musicaux. Suba est recherch\u00e9e en tant que cheffe de ch\u0153ur, arrangeuse, compositrice et \u00e9ducatrice, ayant enseign\u00e9 \u00e0 l'Universit\u00e9 York, \u00e0 l'Universit\u00e9 de Toronto et au Humber College, et elle a donn\u00e9 des classes de ma\u00eetre partout dans le monde. Elle a compos\u00e9 et produit de la musique pour le th\u00e9\u00e2tre, le cin\u00e9ma, la radio et la danse, notamment en collaboration avec Deepa Mehta, la CBC-Radio-Canada, le Festival de Stratford, le Shaw Festival et les d\u00e9buts de sa musique originale au Barbican Theatre de Londres dans le cadre du \u00ab Mahabharata \u00bb du Why Not Theatre.<\/p>

Suba a co-cr\u00e9\u00e9 City Choir, une chorale communautaire mondiale \u00e0 Toronto, et elle est associ\u00e9e artistique avec Confluence Concerts, une compagnie d\u2019artistes cr\u00e9ateurs diverses d\u00e9di\u00e9s \u00e0 la pr\u00e9sentation d\u2019\u0153uvres personnelles, stimulantes et \u00e9mouvantes. A propos le prix<\/strong><\/p>

Le Prix Kathleen McMorrow de musique<\/a> a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 en 2015. Kathleen McMorrow a dirig\u00e9 la biblioth\u00e8que musicale de la facult\u00e9 de musique de l'Universit\u00e9 de Toronto de 1974 \u00e0 2013. Elle a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le prix pour reconna\u00eetre et encourager la composition et la pr\u00e9sentation de la musique classique contemporaine canadienne.<\/p>

La Fondation des arts de l'Ontario g\u00e8re le fonds de dotation qui finance le prix. Le Conseil des arts de l'Ontario est responsable du processus de nomination et d'adjudication. Le laur\u00e9at ou la laur\u00e9ate du prix est s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9(e) parmi les candidats et candidates retenu(e)s pour l\u2019une des deux \u00e9ch\u00e9ances annuelles du programme Musique \u2013 projets de cr\u00e9ation du Conseil des arts de l\u2019Ontario.<\/p>
