Toronto, le 13 novembre 2023 \u2013 Peggy Baker<\/strong> est la laur\u00e9ate du Prix en danse de la famille Eldred<\/strong>d\u2019un montant de 20 000 dollars. Ce prix biennal reconnait les r\u00e9alisations exceptionnelles et la capacit\u00e9 cr\u00e9ative en danse d'une ou d'un chor\u00e9graphe ontarien(ne) \u00e9tabli(e). Peggy a re\u00e7u le prix vendredi soir dernier au Th\u00e9\u00e2tre Betty Oliphant de l\u2019\u00c9cole nationale de ballet du Canada, suivi de la projection du film Dancing Darkness<\/em> des cin\u00e9astes V. Tony Hauser et Ellen Tolmie. Le film suit Peggy alors qu'elle cr\u00e9e son \u0153uvre la plus ambitieuse \u00abwho we are in the dark<\/em>\u00bb.<\/p>

A propos de Peggy Baker<\/strong>
N\u00e9e \u00e0 Edmonton en 1952, Peggy Baker est l\u2019une des artistes de danse les plus c\u00e9l\u00e8bres et les plus influentes du Canada, respect\u00e9e en tant qu\u2019interpr\u00e8te du travail de cr\u00e9ateurs canadiens et am\u00e9ricains estim\u00e9s ; en tant qu'\u00e9ducatrice dans les programmes de danse des conservatoires partout en Am\u00e9rique du Nord ; en tant que championne de la musique en direct pour la danse ; et en tant que chor\u00e9graphe d'\u0153uvres po\u00e9tiques et visuellement saisissantes pour sa compagnie torontoise, Peggy Baker Dance Projects (1990 \u2013 2023). Son travail a \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 dans des th\u00e9\u00e2tres, des galeries, des espaces publics et sur des \u00e9crans m\u00e9diatiques partout au Canada et aux \u00c9tats-Unis, ainsi qu'au Mexique, en Argentine, en \nBelgique, en Allemagne, aux Pays-Bas, au Danemark, en Cor\u00e9e et au Japon. Parmi ses nombreuses distinctions : l\u2019Ordre du Canada, le Prix du Gouverneur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, le Prix du premier ministre, le Prix Carsen, des doctorats honorifiques de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 York et de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Calgary et six prix Dora Mavor Moore. Elle est intronis\u00e9e en 2023 au Dance Collection Danse Hall of Fame. Mme Baker est artiste en r\u00e9sidence de longue date \u00e0 l\u2019\u00c9cole nationale de ballet du Canada.<\/p>

D\u00e9claration de l'artiste<\/strong>
\u00ab Je suis profond\u00e9ment touch\u00e9e par cet honneur de recevoir le Prix en danse de la famille Eldred, et qui est particuli\u00e8rement marquant pour moi alors que je ferme ma compagnie de plus de trente ans et que je m\u2019embarque une fois de plus, cinquante ans apr\u00e8s \u00eatre entr\u00e9e dans le milieu professionnel, comme artiste ind\u00e9pendante. Chaque aspect de ma vie de danseuse continue en constante \u00e9volution : la forme et le contenu des cours que j'anime \/ l'\u00e9change avec mes \u00e9l\u00e8ves ; ma pratique cr\u00e9ative \/ la croissance par la recherche et la collaboration ; la pratique physique personnelle qui me soutient \/ les conseils de mes professeurs. Je prends absolument \u00e0 c\u0153ur les encouragements de ce g\u00e9n\u00e9reux prix et j'exprime ma sinc\u00e8re gratitude \u00e0 la famille Eldred, au jury de s\u00e9lection, \u00e0 la Fondation des arts de l'Ontario et \u00e0 la communaut\u00e9 de danse inspirante dans laquelle je vis. \u00bb Peggy Baker<\/strong>

Le jury \u00e9tait unanime dans leur choix de Peggy Baker comme laur\u00e9ate pour le prix en danse de la famille Eldred. Ils ont d\u00e9clar\u00e9: \u00ab L\u2019invitation \u00e0 entrer dans le monde de Peggy est toujours puissante en raison de sa force \u00e9motionnelle, de sa sophistication musicale et de la joie d\u00e9brid\u00e9e de sa vision artistique. Elle transcende les cat\u00e9gories. Peggy a eu un impact sur le ballet, la danse moderne et contemporaine. Sa recherche chor\u00e9graphique, au fil du temps, est devenue plus ouverte, laissant place \u00e0 l'improvisation et aux voix uniques de ses collaborateurs.
