Composers Ally Fiola and Sean Hayden Awarded the Christopher Dedrick Award for Live Musicians in Media Soundtracks

Toronto, June 15, 2023 – The Screen Composers Guild of Canada (SCGC) and the Ontario Arts Foundation are delighted to announce that Ally Fiola and Sean Hayden are this year’s recipients of the Christopher Dedrick Award for Live Musicians in Media Soundtracks. This $1,200 award recognizes Ontario based composers and encourages the use of live musicians in the production of media music soundtracks.

About Ally Fiola
Ally Fiola is a Nova Scotian saxophonist and film composer. Film is the perfect setting for Ally’s passion of storytelling and music to come together. She excels at creating memorable melodies and understanding how to intertwine harmony with the emotion of the scene. Ally loves writing for a variety of instruments and ensembles, including experimenting with unique and non-traditional sounds. Recent credits include short films How The Cheetah Got its Stripes, Blue & White, Momifesto, and Sleeping with the Fishes.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to have this opportunity to hire musicians for a local animated short I’m scoring,” said Ally Fiola. “The film draws on East Coast culture, so having Atlantic Canadian musicians play on the score will round out the project and bring momentum to the music. Thank you SCGC!”

About Sean Hayden
Sean Hayden is a Toronto based composer who writes music for television, advertising, film, and modern media. Credits include composer for Gary & His Demons (2x Canadian Screen Awards award winner and Webby nominated), the theme music for Fear{less} with Tim Ferriss, scoring for Budweiser’s 2018 Superbowl campaign, and well over 100+ credits between advertising and television.

“I am sincerely grateful and deeply honoured to receive this award,” said Toronto based screen composer, Sean Hayden. “This prestigious accolade serves as a vital catalyst in preserving the vitality of our music by supporting live musicians. As a composer, it allows me to capture and preserve the enchanting beauty and profound soul they infuse into our projects.”
